* The otherworld in The Darkness is modeled after First World War scenarios, the Germans are demonic and No Man's Land is a neverending hell. You fight through German bunkers to reach the heart of the demons possessing you, and find out the curse plaguing your family stemmed from the First World War, when a relative of yours summoned the beasts. So that is story-relevant!
* A chapter in the Gamecube game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was set during the First World War. You play as a reporter holed up in a makeshift hospital in a church at the Somme, and is not strictly relevant to the ancient, demonic Tome of Eternal Darkness coming into your possession.
